Cypress Hill released a new Spanish album, 'Dios Bendiga,' to honor their Latin culture

Cypress Hill announced the release of their new Spanish album, Dios Bendiga (God Bless). The project is now available on all platforms. The hip-hop duo aims to honor their Latin roots. According to Billboard, the group explained the album's significance—"It's a prayer for the culture." During a recent performance in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, B-Real enthusiastically revealed that the new album would be in Spanish.

Sen Dog has Afro-Cuban heritage, while B-Real has Mexican roots through his father; his mother was a Cuban political prisoner who escaped to America and eventually settled in Los Angeles.

This marks their eleventh studio album since they first entered the hip-hop scene. Their debut album, Cypress Hill, quickly propelled them into mainstream hip-hop with hits like "How I Could Just Kill a Man," which has become a hip-hop classic.

Sen Dog

Latin representation in hip-hop has been minimal over the years. Nevertheless, Cypress Hill's debut album sold over 2 million copies, and the duo successfully built their brand alongside fellow early '90s California artists such as Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, DJ Quik, Too Short, and Eazy-E, etc.

Two of the original group members, Sen Dog and B-Real, continue to perform with Cypress Hill, while DJ Muggs, the original DJ and producer, has stepped back from live performances to focus on other projects. Mellow Man Ace, Sen Dog's brother and a founding member of the group, significantly influenced their sound and image before they changed their name from DVX to Cypress Hill. He later pursued a solo career.

B-Real

The name "Cypress Hill" was inspired by Cypress Avenue, a street in South Gate, California, where Sen Dog and Mellow Man Ace lived.

To date, the Grammy-nominated duo has an extensive catalog featuring hits like "Insane in the Brain," "Hits from the Bong," "How I Could Just Kill a Man," "Tequila Sunrise," "(Rock) Superstar," and more. They have sold over 20 million records worldwide.
