Two inmates are pregnant by a transgender prisoner at Edna Mahan Women’s Correctional Facility in New Jersey.

Also, one of the pregnant inmates is serving life in prison. The trans inmate, Demetrius Minor, is incarcerated for murdering his foster parent when he was a teenager.

Therefore, the unborn child will likely become a ward of the state once born. It's undetermined what the punishment for the infraction of having sex with fellow inmates will be.

Several lawmakers were concerned with the overall safety of inmates once transgender inmates were able to be housed with the gender they identify themselves as. Pregnancy was also a concern, since many transgender inmates have not had sex reassignment surgery.
