Terence 'Bud' Crawford is unfazed by the WBC stripping him of his belt and title. "The only belt that's recognizable as the champion is the Ring Belt, baby! It trumps all other belts."
The World Boxing Council (WBC) has stripped Terence 'Bud' Crawford of his super middleweight world title and belt, citing his failure to pay the required sanctioning fees.
Crawford recently won the super middleweight title by defeating Canelo Alvarez in September.
According to a report by Yahoo Sports, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced at the WBC annual convention in Bangkok, Thailand, that Crawford lost the super middleweight title due to his failure to pay sanctioning fees for his last two fights against Alvarez and Israil Madrimov.
In response to the situation, Crawford went live on Instagram, explaining that the WBC would not accept the same sanctioning fee as other boxing federations. The fighter from Omaha expressed his belief that the issue with the sanctioning fees is rooted in favoritism.

Crawford explained, "I see Mauricio got a lot to say about me not paying him $300,000, plus another $100K for sanction fees. The boxing champion continued by saying that Mauricio expected him to apologize. He stated, "Like who the (expletive) you think I am?.. You better slap your (expletive) self. He affirmed that he is not paying Mauricio and challenged him by asking, 'What makes you better than the other sanctioning bodies?..."What makes you better than the WBO, the IBF, or the WBA?" Everyone accepted what I was giving them, but you, the WBC, think you're better than everyone else!"
The champion continued, "You got the green belt, which doesn’t mean (expletive) shit. The real belt is the ring belt, which is free! You want me to pay you more than the other sanctioned bodies because you feel like you're better than them? You can take the fucking belt!"
The pound-for-pound champion sarcastically thanked Mauricio. Crawford pointed out that Sulaiman supported Canelo during their fight and failed to congratulate him on his victory. He concluded by saying, "You should have took the money. You should have been thankful and grateful that I was rocking your belt around as your champion—theWBC champion...the undisputed champion at that."
He added, "I'm still considered the undisputed champion. I'm still the champion in the division, because you know why? The only belt that's recognizable as the champion is the Ring Belt, baby! It trumps all belts. And guess what? It's free!"
Crawford is undefeated with a record of 42-0. He has not announced his retirement; however, after his last match, he stated he would discuss future boxing opportunities with his team.
