Omaha celebrated boxer Terence "Bud" Crawford's latest and greatest accomplishment on Saturday. Terence defeated Canelo Alvarez on September 13, becoming the newly crowned super middleweight boxing champion of the world. With this victory, he made history as the first male boxer to become an undisputed world champion in three different weight classes.
The city honored Terence with a parade on Saturday morning, followed by a 38th convivial birthday celebration at the Steelhouse, which was attended by thousands. Fellow boxers Shakur Stevenson and Claressa Shields, along with actor Omari Hardwick, shared the stage and celebrated with the champion during the fun-filled night.
Following his historic bout against Alvarez, Crawford now holds the WBA, IBF, WBO, and WBC junior middleweight titles, according to ESPN.
Despite skepticism from many critics, Crawford moved up two weight classes to secure the fight. He defeated Alvarez in front of approximately 70,482 spectators in Las Vegas, in what was one of the most anticipated fights of the decade. Not only did Terence earn a new title, but he also remained undefeated, boasting a record of 42 wins, zero losses, and 31 victories by knockout.
Omaha raised an unassuming champion. Crawford started his career as an underdog with evident talent but often faced doubt regarding his abilities. He has showcased one of the most tenacious spirits the sport has ever witnessed.

His tenacity as an athlete stems partly from the tough love he received from his mother and the challenges he faced during his youth, including the constant dangers of growing up in North Omaha.
One story Crawford is frequently asked about is surviving a gunshot wound to the head. He has shared that he does not know who shot him and prefers not to delve into the incident, insisting that he has moved on and does not look back.
Bud's neighbor, Carl Washington, who ran the CW Boxing Club, took Terence under his wing as a young child, and his mentorship reportedly played a significant role in shaping Crawford's boxing career. Additionally, Crawford's father, Terence Sr., who served in the US military during his upbringing, projected his son's success as a boxer from an early age.
Despite the skepticism, that's accompanied his career, he's developed a solid fanbase. Terence caught the attention of billionaire Warren Buffett, who is also an Omaha native. Buffett has likened Bud's fighting style to "sound investing" and has attended many of the champ's fights to celebrate his successes. Many former boxing champions, and his hometown continue to sing his praises as well.
