A Texas school teacher, 26-year-old Shantavia Reddick, and her dog were shot and killed when she went to assist her friend in a domestic violence situation. Her friend remained unharmed. According to Houston's ABC 13, when Shantavia pulled into the parking garage of the apartments her friend called her to, her friend's boyfriend, Dimitri Humphrey, allegedly shot and killed her and her pet. According to authorities, the shooting occurred around 6:30 AM in Spring, Texas, about thirty minutes north of Houston. Humphrey is reportedly on the run; local police have been unable to locate him.
Reddick is a teacher for Spring Independent School District. She was a well-liked third-grade teacher. The young teacher had a bright future with the district. Law & Crime reports that she was named Rookie Teacher of The Year last school year. This story is still underway.
