Planet Fitness Member Banned for Refusing to Accept Transgender Female in Women's Locker Room & Making Social Media Post About the Incident

Patricia Silva's membership was revoked from Planet Fitness after she took a picture of a transgender female in the women's locker room in the Fairbanks, Alaska location, and shared it online to protest transgender women sharing locker rooms with biological women. 

According to Patricia's interview with The New York Post, she saw the biological male shaving, "I said, "Hey," and asked him to leave." She explained, "He said, I'm LGBT queer, transitioning, and I said, "That doesn't give you the right to be in the women's locker room." Although Silva said he wasn't bothering anyone, she didn't understand why he was in the women's locker room, "He is dressed as a man." "His hair is cut short." "It appeared that he was dressed, shaving his face, and getting ready to leave for the day." She continued, "Another friend of mine went to that gym the other day, and he was in there — shaving his face again." Silva said her friend told her she asked the individual to leave and that he was accompanied by a Planet Fitness worker who told her, "If you are uncomfortable, you can go into a stall."

Silva unleashed a firestorm last week after confronting the unidentified gym-goer and posting a trio of videos that recounted the incident and her ban from the gym. The video went viral — and has been blamed for Planet Fitness' value plunging by more than $400 million amid calls to boycott the popular chain, according to TNYP. The company's stock price reportedly took a dip from the high of $66.92 on March 7 to $56.46 the next day after the incident went viral, per TNYP.

PF members have expressed their opinions regarding the matter on social media. Silva plans to request legislative changes regarding the matter by asking for a "bathroom bill" that would require people to use the lavatory that corresponds with the gender they were assigned at birth.
