ICE protests are surging throughout America. According to Immigration Detention & Quick Facts, "Immigration and Customs Enforcement held 59,762 in ICE detention according to current data as of September 21, 2025."
NBC San Diego reports that "Nationwide, the numbers show ICE has arrested 142,886 people in the first seven months of this year, as compared to 109,685 arrests in all of 2024 – up about 30%." Out of those numbers, "56,499 of those arrested had a criminal conviction, 43,450 had pending charges and 42,397 had no criminal history at all, according to the data, per NBC San Diego."
Governor Pritzker of Illinois despises ICE's current practices and stated, "In Illinois, we will do everything within our power to look out for our neighbors, uphold the Constitution, and defend the rule of law," Pritzker said. He continued, saying that ICE is "harassing people for not being White."
According to Newsweek, ICE agents dragged naked children out of homes during a September 30 Chicago raid on "South Shore Drive." Several residents reported witnessing federal immigration agents forcibly removing unclothed children from apartments during the pre-dawn raid in Chicago, according to Newsweek's story. A bystander told ABC 7 Chicago that the children were zip-tied to each other and separated from their parents. A building tenant told ABC that ICE took everyone, then asked questions later, "They just treated us like we were nothing." "She continued, "And it was scary because I've never had a gun put in my face."
Immigration and Customs Enforcement reportedly arrested 37 individuals during the raid while pursuing a Venezuelan street gang. Some of those detained were lawful American citizens. Neighbors described the scene as frightening and inhumane, while the apartments and the building were severely damaged.

"None of what Trump is doing is making Illinois safer. Two weeks ago, a man was shot and killed by ICE in Franklin Park, Illinois," said Governor Pritzker during a press conference. The Governor said ICE is "shaking down families." He contends that "60 percent of the individuals that ICE has taken in Illinois this year has no criminal convictions of any kind."
The mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, calls ICE's practices "inhumane and unhinged," and "absolutely dangerous and unconstitutional." During a news brief with MSNBC, Mayor Johnson stated that the current administration and others have decided to declare war against poor people and working people across the country. The mayor continued, "It's evident that it's not about safety, it's not about deportation, this is about the President of the United States of America and his kind." Mayor Johnson reminded MSNBC that the area that was raided is on the south side of Chicago, which has a predominantly Black population, instead of a large immigrant population, which ICE is assigned to. Mayor Johnson calls the current tactics of ICE "tyranny."
