A long-time Chicago area barber, Mitchell Phillips, was killed at his barber shop in East Chatham last week during an attempted robbery. Local authorities said the business owner was shot three times before passing away from his injuries.
Mitchell's family and loved ones said the 52-year-old served his community as a barber for many years before opening his own shop in February.

His relative, Michael Phillips, explained the aftermath in the barber shop. He said, "I saw a lot of blood, chairs flipped over. He definitely put up a fight." A loved one suspects that Mitchell, in fact, knew the person who took his life, as he only unlocked his shop for his clients.
Many of Mitchell's family members spoke with ABC 7 Chicago about the tragedy. His partner shared that he was a generous person; she stated, "If a mother came in there and school was starting up—if he could give them a free haircut, he would." She continued, "Somebody that he trusted with his life, they took his life."
His father and daughter shared their remorse. Mitchell's daughter explained that she feels empty, "they took my daddy." His father recalls how loving the 52-year-old was, he stated, "He would always say love you, Pops, and I loved it when I heard that...And the fact that I'll never hear that again, it's killing me."
According to ABC 7, an alleged eyewitness said two men are responsible for his death, yet at this time, no one is in custody.
