Judge Frank Caprio, known for his reputation of being fair and compassionate, has passed away at the age of 88, after battling pancreatic cancer. His son announced the news via Instagram.
After going viral, Judge Caprio earned the title the "Nicest Judge in the World” for demonstrating great empathy and fairness towards citizens who appeared in his courtroom in Providence, Rhode Island.
Caprio became a judge in 1985. After years of building strong connections with his community, he starred in the show “Caught in Providence.” The show received nominations for four Daytime Emmys in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. His show reportedly started on Rhode Island's public broadcasting channel, then expanded to prime time cable.
Judge Caprio was met with a plethora of scenarios in his court room, and he always handled everyone with care and fairness, despite their circumstances or offenses—following his mantra to be kind to everyone. He stated, "Kindness is the one gift that costs nothing, but means everything. Give it freely, especially when it's hard."
Rest in peace, Judge Caprio. You will be missed.
