According to several news outlets, Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative activist and supporter of President Trump, died Wednesday after being shot at Utah Valley University. Charlie was the co-founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, a youth organization. Kirk was at Utah Valley University for a debate hosted by his organization.

Videos of the shooting have flooded social media, showing the 31-year-old speaking into a microphone as he was shot. Seconds before the shooting, Kirk was speaking about gun violence. The footage shows Kirk reaching up with his right hand as a large volume of blood pours out of the left side of his neck. The crowd immediately went into pandemonium, screaming and fleeing the scene.

Many Americans have mixed feelings about Kirk and his conservatism. His pro-life stance on abortion and several controversial public comments regarding gun laws, immigration, and other contentious issues, as well as his support for Trump, were often not well-received, some people perceived him as a bigot.

Kirk once expressed his belief that empathy is a "made-up, new-age term that causes a lot of damage." Many Americans were outraged by his apathetic comments in 2023 following the Covenant School shooting in Nashville, where he referred to "gun deaths" as a "cost" of liberty. He also asserted that immigration to the U.S. should be completely halted. One of his more controversial statements came during a discussion about Black airmen and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, where he said, "If I see a Black pilot, I'm going to think, 'Boy, I hope he's qualified.'"

Comments are continuously being posted on social media regarding his death. One TikTok user said, "He died for what he believes in --- that everyone should have a gun. I guess his hate was the end of him😏." Other users call his death "inhumane," an "inside job," and "Demon-ocracy."

FBI Director Kash Patel shared on social media that the shooting suspect is currently in custody.
