Kendrick Lamar Makes Music History at His Juneteenth 'Pop Out' Concert in Los Angeles, Performs "Not Like Us" Five Times!
Kendrick Lamar performed his rap battle song against Drake, "Not Like Us," for the first time at his Juneteenth Concert in Los Angeles (The Pop Out: Ken and Friends).
While responding to the fervent requests of his audience, Kendrick performed 'Not Like Us' not just once, but five times! The excitement reached its peak when Dr. Dre, a legendary figure in the rap industry, joined him on stage to kick off one of the song's performances with the iconic lyrics, "I see dead people."
Lamar's former label mates from Top Dawg Entertainment, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, and ScHoolboy Q also performed. Joining Kendrick on stage were a diverse array of celebrity guests, including YG, Steve Lacy, Roddy Ricch, and Russell Westbrook. This diverse lineup showed his ability to harmoniously bring together talent from different areas in Los Angeles, even gang affiliated people. The Breakfast Club host Charlamagne the God was among the many who praised the rapper, calling Lamar's concert the 'Greatest thing to happen on Juneteenth since they made it a national holiday.'
Lamar was able to pack the house at the Kia Forum Arena after announcing the concert only weeks before the event! The Pop Out concert has gone viral! The show appeared to have several unique elements. Lamar did a dedication to his former fellow creative, the late rapper Nipsey Hussle, who was also from Los Angeles. Nipsey was murdered outside his LA business in 2019.
