Irish Grinstead, from the '90s R&B group 702, reportedly died from kidney failure at 43. However, her family has not released an official statement about her cause of death. Her twin sister, Orish, also allegedly died from kidney failure in 2008. The twin's older sister, LeMisha Grinstead, who is also a member of 702, announced Irish's death to fans on Instagram: "It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that my beautiful sister and friend has passed away this evening," she said. "She has had a long battle and she is finally at peace. That girl was as bright as the stars! She was not only beautiful on the outside, but also within. Sharing the stage with her was a joy I will cherish for the rest of my life! We, the family ask for prayers and respect for our privacy as we grieve an outstanding loss to our family."
The third member of 702, Kameelah Williams, also expressed her sorrow about her group member and friend's passing on Instagram. According to NBC News, "the R&B group announced in December that Irish was taking "a medical leave of absence due to serious medical issues." Before her leave of absence, the group was reportedly working on returning to the music industry. They had several hits from the '90s, such as "Get it Together," "I Still Love You," "Where My Girls At," and "This Lil Game We Play" with Subway.
Many of Irish's music industry peers and fans have shown an outpour of love since her untimely death. Missy Elliott wrote via Twitter: "Irish May your beautiful soul Rest Peacefully in the arms of the Lord A Multitude of prayers for the entire Grinstead family#702." Jason Weaver wrote a lengthy post: I woke up this Sunday morning to learn via social media about the passing of my childhood friend and former labelmate Irish Grinstead of the legendary R&B group 702. Admittedly, I hadn't seen or talked to Irish since those memorable years that we all spent together as labelmates on @motownrecords, but I'll always remember her warm and genuine spirit that would instantly light up a room whenever she would walk into it. Irish was a good person, and I'm glad that I got the opportunity to meet and befriend her during that chapter of our lives. đđđžđŻ She's definitely going to be missed, and I pray that her beautiful spirit will now rest peacefully in the presence of our Heavenly Father. I would also like to respectfully express my most sincere condolences to her family during this time, as well as to the beautiful ladies of 702, LaMisha Grinstead (Misha) who is also Irish's sister, and Kameelah Williams (Meelah). My thoughts and prayers are with the both of them as well during this time."
