FedEx is under scrutiny after a 30-year-old FedEx driver, Tanner Lynn Horner, kidnapped and killed 7-year-old Athena Strand last week when delivering a package to her Paradise, Texas, home.
Tanner made a delivery to her family's home on Wednesday, November 30th, the same day Athena came up missing. Her lifeless body was discovered about 11 miles away from her home two days later. The driver is a seasonal contract employee hired for the holiday season. Consumers are concerned that FedEx and other driving companies are too lax when screening their contract employees, as they have had too many violent criminals drive their delivery routes. A Texas newspaper, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, noted, "during the last two years, FedEx drivers were charged with murder, rape, arson, and break-ins."
The authorities believe Horner kidnapped Athena once she got off her school bus. He's been arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping and capital murder. We send our condolences to the family. Stay tuned for updates. This story is still developing.
