Convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante, who escaped from Chester County Prison in Pennsylvania in August, has been captured. Danelo was convicted of stabbing his ex-girlfriend, Deborah Brandao, to death in front of her children in 2021.
A video surfaced showing the Brazilian native crab walking up a prison wall onto the roof before escaping last month. CBS News stated, "Once he was on the roof, Danelo was able to get past additional layers of razor wire. An acting warden for the prison said he was able to get past the wire that was installed after the first escape. Officials said a corrections officer in a tower failed to notice Cavalcante escaped the yard. The officer has since been placed on administrative leave."
The fugitive's former roommate, Franko, told WGAL he was surprised by Cavalcante's actions and now has anxiety from his escape; "I had no idea he could do something like this. He was someone super shy, like really quiet. He would drink his beers on the weekend, make barbeque, and worked a lot." According to CBS Pennsylvania authorities detained Calvacante's sister, who now faces deportation, for being unwilling to assist authorities.
Law enforcement tracked him for weeks, while being informed about several sightings and leads about his whereabouts. Video camera footage showed him on the property of multiple people. Multiple news outlets reported that he stole clothes, boots, a firearm, and a van while on the run. According to ABC Philadelphia, law enforcement was finally able to locate him today based on thermo technology. ABC reports that he was found under logs in a field in Pennsylvania. Calvacante's victim's family and community members are relieved that he's captured and will be returned to custody.
