Mary J. Blige was sued by her former friend and longtime fashion stylist, Misa Hylton, for $5 million in April. The singer and her attorneys have recently responded for the first time, calling the lawsuit "blatantly frivolous."
Misa alleged in the lawsuit that the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul interfered with her management and contractual relationship with rapper Vado. Misa's lawsuit claims that Blige tried to "coerce" Vado into terminating his talent and management contract with Hylton. The fashion stylist maintains that Blige encouraged Vado to "jump ship" to her company, Beautiful Life Productions, where he has a recording contract. Hylton's lawsuit also claims that Blige's company "intentionally excluded" her from meetings with Vado that were held in "intimate and inappropriate" settings such as "late-night yacht outings" and hotel rooms, intentionally sabotaging her relationship with the rapper.
Yet, it's rumoured that Misa and Vado are in a romantic relationship. Despite the lawsuit claims, they were recently seen together at Sean "Diddy" Combs' sex trafficking trial in New York City.

Mary's team requests that the courts dismiss the lawsuit. The singer and her legal team call the suit "meritless." According to Rolling Stone, Mary's attorneys said Misa filed her lawsuit with the "sole purpose of harassing and causing malicious injury to [Blige] based on Hylton's personal animus towards Ms. Blige."

Blige's attorneys also stated that Hylton's company, M.I.S.A. Management, isn't a valid corporation, and they claim that Hylton isn't a licensed talent agent, as required by law for her to manage Vado. According to Rolling Stone, "Shortly after Hylton and Winfree sued, Blige's lawyers, including high-profile music industry litigator Lisa Moore, sent a letter to the plaintiffs demanding "immediate withdrawal" of the claims. The lawyers said their "simple review" of the New York State Department of State database quickly determined that Hylton's company is not a "duly organized New York Corporation." For that reason, "[M.I.S.A. Management] will not be able to prove that it has a valid agreement sufficient to satisfy the first element of tortious interference with contract claim, and you and plaintiffs were aware, or should have been aware, of this before filing this baseless claim," they wrote."
This lawsuit comes as a massive surprise to the millions of fans who've followed Mary J.'s career since the early '90s. The pair began working together during Blige's debut album, "What's the 411?", and have been collaborating for decades. Hylton explained that she was a senior in high school when she was recruited by her then-boyfriend, Sean "Diddy" Combs, to style Mary J. Blige for her music career.
