On April 8, 2011, the body of 27-year-old Ashley Okland was discovered inside a model townhome in West Des Moines, Iowa, where she was hosting an open house. She was shot twice.
An employee at the complex heard a commotion inside the townhome and went to investigate. They found Okland injured on the floor.
According to KCRG, her brother, Josh Okland, recalls his final moments with his sister; the two had a lunch meeting at Panera Bread the day before her death. Josh mentioned that Okland had recently hired him to be her assistant. He told KCRG, “April 7th, we spent the entire afternoon together. Her real estate career was booming, and she hired me to be her assistant to work on small stuff for her, like making pamphlets. So we sat at Panera in Ankeny for four hours, and she was training me, but yeah, I will never forget that day,” said Josh Okland. Her brother mentioned that she hadn't shared any disturbing news with him about any problematic situations in her life. Her shooting death was a complete shock to him.
