The police were reportedly called after a three-year-old soccer star named Nevada dominated a match in Winter Park, Florida, against four- and five-year-old children.
The toddler's father shared a video of the situation on his Instagram, explaining that "They had a whole meeting about a three-year-old...They called the police on a three-year-old because he's too good." He continued, "They called the police on a three-year-old, cause' he had the ball too long, and nobody else can get the ball!"
The police officer at the scene is heard telling the family to leave; he said, "So they're wanting you guys to head out." This child's mother can be heard asking the officer, “What's the real issue?" She said their family never bothered anyone and always stood on the other side of the field from the other parents at the game. The toddler’s mother said she made comments during the match after seeing a group of "grownups" in a huddle talking about her son.
According to Baller Alert, the toddler was kicked out of the i9 league after the incident, and the family was refunded their registration fees.
Nevada's father has shared Instagram videos of the child's athletic development since the child was 1 year old. He appears to be a happy, athletically gifted kid. Nevada's account, Nevadaney10, has over 256K followers. His videos reportedly gained the attention of ESPN FC and other sports outlets. His family has since started a GoFundMe for Nevada's soccer journey.
One Instagram user commented on the situation, stating, "In other countries they would call Milan; here in the US they call the police." 🤦🏿♂️ Nevada's father mentioned a bible scripture about the incident on Instagram, stating, "Nevada was escorted out by the 👮🏼♀️ for being the best 3-year-old in the world today." 🙌🏾🫶🏾 #Psalms 91:7⭐️
While engaging with many Instagram users, the toddler's father said he was looking for a new team for his son to play on and would keep developing his son’s skills.
According to Complex, "In a follow-up statement with The Breakfast Club, Nevada’s mother, Martasia Griffin, said her son was “targeted throughout the season because of his talent.” Nevada's mother added that the league’s director didn’t defend Nevada or his family after protests from the other players’ families and offered a refund for the boy to leave the program.
His mother continued, “Parents like, ‘Oh, we paid for this just like you did,’” Griffin said. “But if my kid is sitting out the whole thirty minutes so, he's not playing either. You're trying to fault my kid for actually playing soccer. He's 3 years old. His teammates are four and five. He's the youngest on the team!”
