According to her family's announcement today, former social media influencer Lil Tay and her brother, Jason Tian, passed away. Lil Tay, legally known as Claire Hope, was 14 years old. The internet sensation quickly gained millions of followers and abruptly seemed to disappear from social media in 2018.
According to multiple sources, Lil Tay was allegedly relocated from Los Angeles to Canada with her father due to a custody battle between her parents. There were also allegations that the influencer was abused, her career was being improperly managed, and during a recent random pop-up on Instagram, many of her followers said she appeared to be high from drugs. However, the video was reportedly removed from the platform.
Although Lil Tay's brand skyrocketed and she received attention from major media outlets, some of her content was criticized for not being age appropriate. She often posed with money and flashy cars and sometimes used profanity.
Her family made the following announcement via her Instagram: "It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of our beloved Claire's sudden and tragic passing. We have no words to express the unbearable loss and indescribable pain. This outcome was entirely unexpected and has left us all in shock. Her brother's passing adds an even more unimaginable depth to our grief. During this time of immense sorrow, we kindly ask for privacy as we grieve this overwhelming loss, as the circumstances of Claire and her brother's passing are still under investigation. Claire will forever remain in our hearts, her absence leaving an irreplaceable void that will be felt by all who knew and loved her."
