The legendary singer Peabo Bryson passed away on Tuesday, June 2nd, at 75, reportedly just days after suffering a stroke in Marietta, Georgia.
Peabo was a talented singer and musician who celebrated 50 years in the music industry in 2025 with ‘The Golden Touch’ multi-city tour.
He was born Robert ‘Peapo’ Bryson in Greenville, S.C. He reportedly said he took on the stage name Peabo after fans started calling him that.
His Instagram shows that he recently performed with singer Jeffrey Osborne in May.
Bryson's family shared a statement with PEOPLE. It states: We are tremendously moved by the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from fans, friends, and colleagues around the world. “While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit. His legacy and music will live on for generations to come.”
He had several successful career-defining duets with Natalie Cole and Roberta Flack, and two especially popular songs with Celine Dion and Regina Belle. With Celine and Regina, he performed “Beauty and the Beast” and “A Whole New World” for the Disney films Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. He won Grammy awards for both collaborations.
He reportedly began singing professionally as a teen after his mother introduced him to several music artists. He credits music as an everlasting love.
Peabo reportedly leaves behind a son, a daughter, and his wife, Tanya Boniface.
