Shaunie Henderson announced that her long-standing reality show, Basketball Wives, has come to an end after 15 years on the air. The final episode aired in July 2025.
The show was introduced to the public following the end of Shaunie’s marriage to former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal, which she described as a difficult split due to Shaquille's ongoing extramarital affairs. In her 2024 memoir, Undefeated, she reflected on her life as an NBA wife and being a mother of five children.
Debuting in April 2010, Basketball Wives offered a firsthand look into the lives of NBA wives and girlfriends. Shaunie not only starred in the show but also served as its Executive Producer. She brought together other women who were either married to or had been in long-term relationships with former NBA players, including Jackie Christie (Doug Christie), Malaysia Pargo (Jannero Pargo), Evelyn Lozada (Antoine Walker), Tammy Roman (Kenny Anderson), and Jennifer Williams (Eric Williams), among others.
The show aired out many personal circumstances, feuds, physical assaults, and the overall “make-up to break-up” friendships that many of the cast members shared. During season 2, things got physical between Tammy Roman and Evelyn Lozada after Evelyn disclosed that she slept with Tammy's estranged husband, Kenny Anderson, after he and Roman separated years prior.
Cast member Brooke Bailey discussed the death of her daughter, whom tragically passed away in a car accident. Jackie Christie even got in a physical confrontation with her daughter, Chantel on season 12. Yet, the show also showcased accomplishments and milestones for the women as well.
Then, in 2022, Shaunie married Pastor Keion Henderson and relocated to Houston, where she serves as the First Lady of his congregation, Lighthouse Church. As a result, she made fewer appearances on the show. In her statement regarding the show's conclusion, she expressed, “This is just called growth and moving forward. I'm announcing today that Basketball Wives will not be returning. Since its launch in 2010, this franchise has been the defining part of my professional journey. What began as a vision to tell my story and stories of women like me grew into a cultural movement that created opportunity, sparked conversation and honestly, amplified voices that deserve to be heard.”

She added, “Thank you to BET, VH1, Shed Media, and to everyone who supported this chapter from the very beginning. What started as a vision became a platform that amplified voices and YOU KNOW opened doors MOVING FORWARD. This isn't an ending, it's a transition. I'm stepping into a new season with exciting projects ahead that align with where I am personally and professionally. More to come.”
