Nick Cannon is Happy Facebook is Cancelling 'Red Table Talk': He Blames RTT for the Chris Rock Slap

Jada, Willow, and Adrienne/Facebook

Nick Cannon blames the Red Table Talk show for Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars. Although there was no direct correlation between Red Table Talk and the situation that led to Will Smith hitting Chris Rock at the Oscars, Nick called the show "toxic" and said he's glad Facebook cancelled the series. Nick said, "Fuck that table" on his show, The Daily Cannon! Will Smith received a lot of flack after being physical with Chris Rock on national television when he joked about Jada Pinkett-Smith's bald head as she sat in the audience at the Oscars. Smith won an Oscar for his leading role in King Richard that year but was banned from the event for ten years due to slapping his Hollywood peer.

Contrary to Nick's beliefs about the show, many viewers deemed RTT a safe space that enabled guests to discuss their truths, which are typically uncomfortable subjects! The cast, Jada Pinkett Smith, her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, and her daughter Willow Smith are unabashed about sharing some of their ugly truths and are very transparent with their guests. Jada and her mother, Adrienne, discussed how her drug addiction and broken marriage during Jada's childhood shaped their relationship. A memorable RTT episode was when Jada and her husband Will Smith's ex-wife, Sheree Zampino, sat down to sort out their grievances and true feelings about the challenges of sharing a blended family over the years.

The show's topics ranged from unhealthy relationships, dynamics of the entertainment industry, and poverty to domestic violence, substance abuse, and sexual assault in an attempt to offer healing and transparency. However, Jada was heavily criticized after an episode aired where she and Will Smith discussed her marital affair with the much younger singer, August Alsina. The public accused her of emasculating Will and embarrassing her family on television. However, viewers continued to tune in to the show. Yet, after five seasons, Facebook is canceling Facebook Watch programming, so RTT is looking for a new network to call home. And, we wish them luck!
