Abraham Quintanilla, the father of the late and beloved Latin singer Selena, has passed away at the age of 86.
His son, Abraham “A.B.” Quintanilla III, announced their father's death in an Instagram post, sharing a photo of Abraham. He expressed, "It’s with a heavy heart to let you guys know that my Dad passed away today."
Until his passing, Abraham was actively involved in preserving Selena's legacy and working on projects related to her life. Before her tragic death, he managed her career and the family band, Selena y Los Dinos.
The Quintanilla family previously owned two boutiques and beauty salons, in memory of the former star, which they later closed. However, they still operate and oversee the Selena Museum in their hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Quintanilla was very vocal about Selena's murder and participated in various documentaries that focused on her life. He was particularly critical of her murderer, Yolanda Saldívar, who was employed by the family at the time of the murder. He voiced his discontent with Oxygen for featuring Yolanda in the documentary Selena & Yolanda, calling it a project that exploited the family's pain for profit.
The family did not provide details about the cause of death. However, "AB" expressed gratitude to everyone for their continued support, stating, "I wanna thank all of you who checked up on me on such a hard day…I love y’all!!! Let’s never forget “SELENA” or my Dad who made us as kids believe the impossible is possible."
Quintanilla is survived by his wife, Marcella, and his daughter, Suzette, as well as AB.
