Steven "Layzie Bone" Howse was especially candid and vivacious during his conversation with Volume 82 about his career, the release of his new solo album, D.a.S.H., and the future of his legendary music group, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

Like many stars from the ‘90s, BTNH has somewhat tapered away from the music scene. Still, Layzie foresees the group completing another epic Bone album.

Yet, as he awaits this project, the Cleveland native has a wealth of creative endeavors in the works. “I’m still conquering the entertainment industry; it’s what I love!,” he stated. In addition, Layzie is nearing completion of a book of poetry and a memoir. He has written several screenplays and launched a new merchandise line, and hopes to eventually produce a BTNH biopic alongside his groupmates.

As the glue that kept the legendary group together, Howse reflected on the decades he's spent in the entertainment industry. The most defining moment of Bone's career was the sudden loss of their mentor, hip-hop icon Eazy-E, who died from AIDS in 1995 at the onset of their careers. Eazy’s absence forced his protégés to navigate the tyrannical world of hip-hop without him.

Yet the group's never-before-seen talent in hip-hop (a blend of fast rapping and melodic singing) positioned them for numerous opportunities in the recording industry. BTNH has sold over 50 million records worldwide and collaborated with major names in rap, R&B, gospel, and rock, such as Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Mariah Carey, Phil Collins, Akon, and Yolanda Adams. Their music appeared on the soundtracks for The Show, Set It Off, and Batman and Robin. Their timeless track, "Tha Crossroads," continues to resurge in entertainment. The song, which became an urban anthem, has been featured in a variety of movies and television series.

Fast-forwarding to more than 30 years later, all five members—Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone, Wish Bone, Bizzy Bone, and Flesh-n-Bone—are still highly respected in hip hop. Bone recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in addition to their Grammy Award for "Tha Crossroads."

Their streaming numbers are astounding; "Thuggish Ruggish Bone," a foundational song from their early career, and their debut album, Creepin on Ah Come Up has been streamed over 260 million times on Spotify alone.
