During last night’s women’s Final Four game, coaches Dawn Staley and Geno Auriemma had a heated exchange on the sideline.

Near the end of the game, Coach Geno approached Dawn and made some unclear comments that quickly escalated into a verbal confrontation filled with profanity. At press time, neither coach clarified what Auriemma said to initiate the argument. He stated, “I said what I had to say and nothing… nothing.”

When asked about the incident, “I have no idea, but I’ma let you know this, I’m of integrity, so if I did something wrong to Geno, I have no idea what I did. Coach Staley was also heard saying, "I will beat Geno's ass!"

South Carolina defeated UConn 62 to 48 and will advance to the championship game on Sunday against UCLA

In 2025, UConn won the championship, marking Coach Auriemma’s 12th title. Coach Staley is competing for her fourth NCAA title and has reached seven consecutive Final Four games.

Today, Geno issued an apology stating, "There's no excuse for how I handled the end of the game vs. South Carolina," Auriemma said in a statement issued through the school. "It's unlike what I do and what our standard is here at Connecticut. I want to apologize to the staff and the team at South Carolina. It was uncalled for in how I reacted. The story should be how well South Carolina played, and I don't want my actions to detract from that. I've had a great relationship with their staff, and I sincerely want to apologize to them."
