Actress Catherine O'Hara died at 71 in Los Angeles on January 30th. She reportedly suffered from a rare health condition.
Despite her decades-long career in acting, when stopped at the airport and asked which role she would like to be remembered for the most, she responded, "a mother" to her children. She is the mother of two sons, Matthew and Luke Welch, whom she shares with her husband, Bo Welch. Both sons reportedly work in the entertainment industry, specializing in set design and construction.
Fans have many productions to remember the Canadian actress by, including Home Alone, Beetlejuice, Schitt's Creek, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and numerous others throughout her career.

Home Alone, one of Catherine's most memorable roles, gained a cult following. She told People that fans often approached her, particularly those named Kevin, like the film's main character. "I used to mostly get people named Kevin who'd come up to me and ask me to yell 'Kevin!' in their faces," (O'Hara noted in her 2020 interview with PEOPLE). "Now it's mostly about Moira and Schitt's Creek. I've never gotten this kind of attention in my life. It's crazy." Moira was a constant scene-stealer, with her over-the-top outfits and unique enunciation.Â
The Emmy Award-winning actress's family has stated that they will hold a private celebration in honor of her life.
Rest in peace.
