Buddhist Monks continue their 'walk for peace' from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington D.C.

A group of Buddhist monks has begun a journey for peace across the United States. In light of the current state of our nation, members of the Huong Dao Buddhist Temple in Fort Worth, Texas, started their round-trip walk to Washington, D.C., on October 26th.

According to their Facebook page, today marks the 78th day of their journey. They expect to reach Charlotte, North Carolina, by January 15th and estimate they will arrive in Washington, D.C., by February 11th, assuming favorable weather conditions. Aloka, known as "the peace dog," is accompanying them on their walk.

Their mission is to raise awareness of peace, loving-kindness, and compassion both in America and around the world. They regularly update their Facebook page with information on how people can engage with them along their route.

For the most part, the monks have been well-received by the public. Many citizens have generously gifted them with monetary donations, flowers, books, water, and food. The monks are engaging with crowds, sharing their message, and taking pictures with their supporters.

According to News19, as of last week, the monks took an overnight rest on Friday at Tom’s Den in Lexington. On Saturday, they traveled through West Columbia and addressed a large crowd at the South Carolina State House in Columbia, where they received a City of Columbia Proclamation presented by Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, as well as a State of South Carolina Proclamation given by Senator Deon Tedder.
