A content creator’s family questions her alleged ‘suicide’ death during her birthday trip to Africa with her fiancé

A Portland, Oregon-based influencer Ashlee Jenae recently traveled to Tanzania, Africa, with her partner, Joe McCann to celebrate her 31st birthday. The couple also became engaged during the trip.

According to People, the Zuri Zanzibar resort, where they were staying, had to separate Ashlee and Joe into different rooms on the day of her death after an argument. Reports indicate that Ashlee was later found unconscious in her villa and rushed to a local hospital, where she was declared dead hours later.

On her birthday, April 4th, the content creator shared a post on Instagram with the caption, “Chapter 31 and I'm exactly where I need to be.” While sharing the surrealness of being in Africa, she also stated, “If this is a dream, no one wake me up.”

With over 100,000 followers, Ashlee frequently posted content showcasing her extravagant travels and romantic date nights with her fiancé in various domestic and international locations.

Ashlee's family released a statement regarding her death, saying, “One moment she was celebrating love and life in truly Ashlee fashion, and the next, she was gone. The suddenness, the unanswered questions, and the distance from home have made this tragedy even more overwhelming for our family.”

Ashlee's mother told ABC 6 that she reached out to her during the trip and told her that she and her fiancé had a dispute and were moved to separate rooms by the hotel staff. Her mother stated that McCann contacted her the next day, about 11 hours after Ashlee's alleged suicide, to inform them of her death.

Her parents and family find it hard to believe she committed suicide, given her recent birthday celebration, engagement, growing social media platform, and overall station in life.

According to People, the Zanzibar police have stated that they do not plan to detain or take legal action against McCann at this time. Her fiancé has yet to make a formal comment. Yet, Ashlee’s family has reportedly requested an independent autopsy.
