After defeating South Carolina tonight, the Iowa Hawkeyes will play in the Women's NCAA Championship final on Sunday in Dallas. The Hawkeyes broke South Carolina's winning streak, beating them 77-73. Iowa's star player, Caitlyn Clark, broke the record for being the first NCAA player to score 40 points during the NCAA tournament in two games. The last time Iowa made it to the final four was in 1993, under the leadership of the esteemed coach C. Vivian Stringer.

Last year, Dawn Staley led the Lady Gamecocks to the NCAA championship win and followed up with a perfect season this year. Coach Staley stated, "We just didn't perform. We didn't make the plays that we needed to make down the stretch. That wasn't us all season long. Iowa had a terrific game plan, and we didn't get it done." Zia Cooke, a senior and star player for the Gamecocks, scored 24 points and made a terrific effort in tonight's game. Coach Staley's team will lose some of its dynamic players after tonight who are seniors. Aaliyah Boston is trying to decide if she will stay to play for another season due to losing a season to Covid 19.

The Hawkeyes will face LSU during the championship game.
