According to Rap Up, "Lil Durk will have to wait a bit longer before appearing in court for his murder-for-hire case. On Monday (Jan. 5), a California judge moved his trial date to May 4, instead of Jan. 20."
Complex has obtained documents regarding the current delay in the trial. According to their report, all co-defendants are requesting a delay; however, Lil Durk, whose legal name is Durk Devontay Banks, opposes this postponement.
The rapper was arrested in October 2024 based on accusations that he paid five affiliates of his label, Only the Family (OTF), to kill rapper Quando Rondo in August 2022. He faces several charges, including conspiracy, murder-for-hire, and the use of a firearm in a violent crime.
Lil Durk is the founder and leader of OTF, a music collective that has been surrounded by controversy. The late rapper King Von, who was murdered in 2020, was also a member of the group.
Durk's murder-for-hire charges are linked to Quando Rondo's alleged involvement in King Von's death. The conflict between Quando's crew and King Von, along with other OTF members, escalated at an Atlanta hookah lounge, leading to a physical altercation and gun violence that resulted in Von's death at the age of 26. Durk is accused of hiring gunmen to kill Quando in retaliation for Von's death.
Quando is currently serving a 33 month prison sentence for federal drug conspiracy charges. His release date is reportedly 2027. Quando has asserted that Von's shooting was strictly self-defense.
Durk, a native of Chicago, has reportedly had multiple bond proposals denied. Rap Up reports that Last June, he offered a $4.5 million package that included cash, 24-hour home detention, electronic monitoring, and private security. However, U.S. District Judge Michael Fitzgerald denied it because “the proffered funds are only a fraction of defendant’s net worth.”
