Jaylen Smith Is the 18-Year-Old Mayor of Earle, Arkansas

Jaylen Smith is the new mayor of Earle, Arkansas, and he's 18 years old and one of the youngest mayors in American history! Considering his recent high school graduation, one may think leading a city is too heavy a responsibility for a teenager, but Smith is reportedly excited about his new role.

Smith sold himself on bettering the city's economy by bringing in new businesses, such as a local grocery store, and making the city safer. The new mayor told KATV that high school government classes encouraged him to become involved in local government.

His youth and passion earned him many votes after winning the run-off election, 235 to 183. His town of about 1,800 citizens was excited to give his leadership a try.
