Jay-Z's loc journey was dedicated to his late father, Adnis Reeves, and his daughter, Blue Ivy. Jay wanted Blue to embrace her natural hair texture and curls, which is similar to his own, so he began growing his locs when she was five years old.

In memory of his father, whose hairstyle of choice was the Afro, Jay decided to cut his locs for his performance at The Roots Picnic and music festival in Philadelphia last month.
Beyoncé mentioned that she was obsessed with his locs and didn't want him to cut them. She stated, "It’s a lot of memories attached to his locs.” Bey noted, “locs can be like antennas, connecting us to frequencies and energies,…so the transformation can be emotional.”

While narrating the video for her hair care line, Cécred, and Jay's hair transformation, Beyoncé explained that Jay used Cécred products during the entire time he wore locs.
Cutting his locs was certainly a surprising moment and such an interesting hair journey!
