Creator Calls Out Beyoncé on Instagram, Claiming She Stole His Design & Used It on Renaissance Tour

Designer Hajime Sorayama called out Beyoncé via Instagram, accusing the superstar of stealing his designs and incorporating them into her recent Renaissance World Tour. He posted images of his work on Instagram with the message, "Yo @beyonce 🤘 You should have asked me "officially" so that I could make much better work for you as like my man @theweeknd."

However, Hajime's claims were quickly negated. Several users quickly jumped into his comments, reminding him that Beyoncé wore a similar headpiece during the 2007 BET Awards, designed by the late designer Thierry Mugler, which was believed to be inspired by the 1927 film Metropolis, which was about a futuristic city. One fan stated, "She's wearing Thierry Mugler based off an archive Mugler look that referenced Metropolis. Were you this incensed when she wore a similar headpiece in 2007 at the BET awards?" Another fan stated, "You're the Director of (1927) Metropolis Film?" More comments tied back to the Metropolis film; another Instagram user said, "Metropolis Film was Public Domain in 2023! Everyone can use the female robot as inspiration."

Unsurprisingly, over three thousand people commented on the designer's outcry. Some Instagram users felt the post was disingenuous, and it was too late for the designer to speak on his observation because the Renaissance tour ended in October; Hajime made this post on December 11. Criticisms of Beyoncé's artistry never seem to outweigh the success of her projects. Her movie, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, reportedly opened with $21 million and is number one at the box office, according to Billboard. Entertainment Weekly said the "tour pulled in $579 million, making it the highest-grossing tour by a female artist in history, and the seventh-highest-grossing tour overall." It's hard to deny that she's one of the best to ever do it! What are your thoughts on this story?
