A judge has ordered Chris Brown to pay nearly $13 million to his former housekeeper who was bitten by his guard dog

Chris Brown is reportedly disputing the $13 million judgment that his former housekeeper was awarded after his guard dog attacked her in December, 2020.

The former housekeeper, Maria Avila, was attacked by the singer’s Caucasian Shepherd, which mauled her as she took out the trash at his residence in Tarzana, California.

According to pictures obtained by TMZ, the housekeeper was injured on her forehead, cheek, and a plug was bitten out of her arm.

According to Y! Entertainment, the attack left Avila with severe facial disfigurement, vision loss, and nerve damage requiring skin grafts from her abdomen. Following a two-week trial, a jury found Brown and his company, Black Pyramid LLC, liable for negligence. The court awarded Maria $12.9 million, while her sister Patricia received $885,000 for emotional distress and her husband Oscar Olivo received $50,000. Maria’s sister reportedly worked alongside her at the singer's residence.

On the day of the accident, it’s alleged that Chris left the scene of his home before the authorities arrived, in an effort to dodge media attention. The singer stated in court that the housekeeper provoked the dog, and felt that he was not liable for the injuries. Yet, the dog, Hades, was reportedly euthanized by the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office Animal Shelter following the attack.

In California, by law, royalties and money that entertainers make while touring can be diverted to people for judgements. In fact, a judge has reportedly ruled that Avila can intercept Brown's earnings from his current R&B Tour to receive her settlement. The concert promoters may be required to send a portion of the singer's earnings directly to Avila.

The R&B Tour that he's co-headlining with Usher has reportedly already grossed around $101.9 million. The tour kicked off in June and will run through December.

Brown's legal team is working to overturn the ruling. Despite the injuries the victim sustained, his lawyers deem the payout amount to be excessive.
